About Wang shifu

Wang shifu was born in the Wudangshan district, and so he is a witness and a very valuable and rare source of information for all the recent changes and  history in Wudang. At 8 years of age he was taken under the wing of Wudang Longmen master Jia He Xuan. In that time China was coming out of the cultural revolution and struggling with many troubles,  Jia shifu was also a traditional daoist doctor so he would go around  walking to the mountains and valleys in search of plants and herbs to make medicine, visiting people that needed to be cured and bringing them the medicine he made. Spending his days beside him is how Wang shifu learned many of his traditional daoist medicine knowledge. During this times wushu was forbidden to be practiced in China, so in the nights when no one was around they would return home and  Jia shifu would teach him in secrecy  traditional Wudang wushu, this was a time of much hardship for Wang shifu, although he was a small boy he would be expected to work and train as an adult. Many times he would not be able to sleep because tiredness or pain due to training and would anyway have to stand up to the next day and continue to wander around with his master.

In 1984 Wang shifu decided to wander through China to learn more about the other styles of wushu, during this travels he lived one year at the Shaolin temple, then went to the south in Hong Kong and to Sichuan province in the southwest where he would keep coming back every year. In this thime Wang shifu understood much better the diferences between external and internal sytles and his passion for Wudang kung fu grew even more, after two years of wandering he came back to Wudang when he got notice that Jia shifu was very ill, he passed away in 1986.

In 1980 - 1981 the Wudang Daoist Association was allowed to reopen the temples for cult, and started to teach again the Wudang daoist arts, and  in 1985 they sent out a call to all corners of China asking the old masters to return and ressume teaching to a new generation and so save this ancient knowledge from being lost.  At that time Wang shifu was a young man and  started to train at the Zixiao Gong, the Purple cloud temple. Everyday he would have to go up running before the sun came out, train wushu at the temple with many of the returning masters like Wang Guangde and Zhu Cheng De, and only after a whole day of training and practices in the temple come down at night to rest.  After Jia shifu passed away, Wang shifu continued to follow the teachings of Liu Cheng Yi another Wudang Longmen pai master and became his disciple. In 1999 he was encouraged by his master to open his kung fu own kung fu school to start accomplishing his given mission  , "to spread the Wudang Longmen pai daoist arts to the whole world for the benfeit of all mankind".

Now 20 years later, Wang shifu continues to carry on with this mission, with much struggle he has slowly built a comunnity of disciples and students , with people from all over the world visiting his school every year the Wudang Longmen pai is spreading, opening the doors of wellbeing to anyone genuinely interested in a serious practice, the path has been laid by Wang shifu and now its up for the students to follow it.
